Child Therapy

Our psychologists have a range of experience in child therapy, counselling, and mental health. Everyone has a state of mental health, just as everyone has a state of physical health. Our mental health can fluctuate over time in response to life events, continual demands, increasing commitments and relationship difficulties. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health challenge, followed by depression, stress and adjustment. Mental health and wellbeing both need to be managed to feel good, function well and live a quality life.

Child Therapy

Individual child therapy can take a number of different forms. Regardless of the theory behind each type, one to one therapy strives to help each person restore mental health and regain optimal functioning – whether you are challenged by anxiety, depression, stress or adjustment. We offer a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic environment so people feel heard and understood, process emotions effectively, learn new skills and take away practical strategies to use in everyday life.

Our Child Support Process

All of our clients have a right to be informed about their experience and the service that they are receiving. Psychological education is the process of providing education and information to those seeking or receiving services for mental health, physical health or disabilities. We support people and their family members to thoroughly understand the condition, their own areas of strength, personal coping ability and resources to manage their health and wellbeing.

At Scope, we offer a three-stage, cyclical process for psychological support.

Assessment. The first stage of psychological support involves assessment of your challenges and, when required, formulation of a diagnosis. Assessment usually includes a guided discussion with your psychologist and the completion of a questionnaire or two.

Strategy. Once your psychologist has a good understanding of your experience, they’ll develop a treatment plan with you. Because we are scientist-practitioners, our treatment plans will always be based on what research says is helpful, but it will also be completely tailored to your goals.

Review. Your psychologist will review your progress on a regular basis. Typically, a formal review will be completed after 6 sessions, but this may vary depending on the severity of your symptoms and your practitioner’s clinical judgement. A review of your progress throughout the strategy phase usually leads back to assessment, and the cycle goes on.

Do I need a referral for child therapy?

No. Anyone can make an appointment + access our psychologists straight away. But, a referral from your GP under a mental health care plan will allow you access to Medicare rebates for counselling services.
